Founder 5 with Stefanie Walmsley of Prim Botanicals

Raised in the Philippines and based in New York, Prim Botanicals is a natural beauty and lifestyle brand that focuses on creating products that get to work as soon as you open them, starting with their intoxicating scents. The brand pulls inspiration from founder Stefanie Walmsley’s Southeast Asian childhood. Resulting in a brand that oozes island vibes. Plush, tropical ingredients are blended to create luxe, effective formulas by an in-house esthetician. Prim Botanicals is known for their fun, fresh vibe and not taking themselves too seriously (though, be rest assured that they’re serious about their creations). All of Prim Botanicals’ products are crafted in small batches – like the bottles you’re holding in your hands, created especially for you. Prim Botanicals believes in real beauty, feeling happy in your skin and of course, pretty packaging.

We had the chance to pick founder Stefanie’s brain in a lightening round about our 5 favorite topics, we hope you enjoy!

Well, why not? Beauty should be so much more than what you put on and more about how it makes you feel and how good it is for you. Plus, it’s super effective.

Your self care ritual – an indulgent weekly event or finding moments whenever you can get them?

I always say, self care is the best care! You truly cannot take care of others until you learn to care for yourself. It took me a really long time to understand that. I’m constantly busy; I’m just one of those people that is always doing a million things and now that I’m a mom, I see how easy it is to put yourself last. But… that’s why you really have to find a way to make time for yourself.

Honestly, when I’m not feeling my best I can very easily succumb to exhaustion, anxiety and self-doubt, and all of that is just such a slippery slope.

It’s weird how we sometimes feel guilty for taking care of ourselves but really- you are doing everyone and everything around you a service by working to be able to give the best of yourself.

So to answer the question- I do both. Whenever I can find a moment, I take it. Sometimes those moments include putting on a new lipstick I’m excited about even if I’m in sweats and the rest of me looks like a mess!

My husband recently went away for a week-long business trip (read: I held down the fort with our 5 month old solo) so I told him that I was going on a business trip, too. He is well aware I’m actually going on a trip with my girlfriends, and the “business” is the business of self-care! Ha!

And as for what self-care is- that is totally up to you! Maybe it’s a massage, maybe it’s binge watching a tv show with zero guilt, maybe it’s a long walk, or a clean smoothie or a fatty burger. Point it, it’s something that you do for you that makes you feel better, and gives you a moment of pause before you head back to that to-do list of yours.

What’s the #1 piece of advice you would you tell your past self just getting started?

Grow slow. Trust yourself. Just keep going and never forget why you started.
